73 Opel GT

by Marius

Hi,
I am ready to start upholstering the interior work on my car and this includes making new side panels.
The existing side panels are vinyl and have some kind of backing made out of what looks like 15 sheets of paper glued into one piece.the entire piece(s) was glued to the metal sides
Between the vinyl and the ,you could call it paperboard there is 1/8 foam
I would like to replace the backing and the vinyl but I cannot find the backing that I need. I think it's called panel board (1/4 inch thick)but I wonder if it is going to be too stiff
I am also looking for the 1/8 foam.

Can you help?

Thank you

Hi Marius

The backing is made from cardboard and usually in three sizes 40, 60 and 100 gauge. These can be glued together to make your upholstered panels, stiffeners etc.
The foam is probably general purpose polyurethane which is around 1.3 lbs.
All these items can be purchased at most furniture and auto upholstery shops.

Thanks Steve
