Basic Ideas Auto Repair Upholstery
Just bought a new car and need some advice on auto repair upholstery. There is nothing more frustrating that dropping that hot ash on the your new car upholstery. There are some products on the market now that can repair vinyl upholstery but I would recommend going to a pro.
If the burn hole is in fabric it can be hand stitch to at least prevent further damage but most likely still will show .
Start your blind stitching about 1 inch from the hole and work your way up to it so that when you arrive at the hole your seam is wide enough to swallow it up and keep going past the hole and finish up about an inch on the opposite side. If you are lucky and the hole is on a seam it probably will not show. Check below.
You can also take thread that is the same color and just stitch it across the hole several times until the hole is filled in
On high end cars a cosmetic type of repair just isn,t good enough to address the devaluation caused by this kind of damaged. One of the ways to repair is to replace the panel if you can find the same type and color of fabric.
If this can be cannot be done then it is time to create a new seam and this will have to be done on the opposite seat as well so that they will match. This is the most time consuming because both seat covers will have to be take off and replaced for this auto upholstery repair burn. The pictures below are on a seat using this system
