Does Steaming Vinyl Harm the Fabric in Anyway?

I've been steaming vinyl for years, and I just starting working in a different shop and the owner won't allow it. He uses a heat gun, which will burn the upholstery vinyl in a second if your not careful. Really don't get that. Hope you can give me a good answer. Thanks.. Mark

I don,t think steaming will hurt the upholstery vinyl in anyway.
I also use a heat gun in my shop and you are right if you are not careful it will melt the upholstery fabric pretty quick.
To be super safe use a hair dryer. These do not get as hot.
