What thickness foam do I need?
I want to make headboards
for my hotel, The finished size will be 54" by 30". I have been told I need foam 58"x 34" is this correct, also do I need upholstery batting also what sort of sheeting do I need, I appreciate your help.

If they told you you need a piece of foam that size it means that you will be wrapping around the edges.
Also it is not upholstery batting that you put over the foam.
It is called Cushion wrap or Dacron wrap.This is normally glued to the foam and gives the finished upholstered product a better look.
There are are a couple of upholstery DVDs on EBay at listing 360222169395 that have a section on headboards.For the price, these are a good investment.
